The Shema Initiative

Say the Shema, morning and night, with love.

Shema — twice a day, with love
שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲ־דֹנָי אֱ־לֹהֵינוּ אֲ־דֹנָי אֶחָדHear, O Israel: the Lord is our God, the Lord is One.
An open Torah scroll displayed in a study, rolled to a central column of Hebrew text

Right now, when everything feels loud and fractured, the Shema offers something radically simple: a way to come back to one - one God, one people, one moment of focus. It’s a reminder that, even across distance, disagreement and time, we are still bound together.

As the best known Jewish prayer, and one of our religion’s most fundamental, the Shema is an entry point into understanding the world of Judaism, prayer, and Torah. The Shema Initiative is a collaboration between the NJOP (National Jewish Outreach Program) and Simchat Torah Challenge, bringing Jews together in learning Torah and the prayers that bind us all.

How does the Shema Initiative work? Simple. We ask you to say the Shema, twice a day, with love.

That’s it.

If you want to go deeper, and learn how to read the Shema in Hebrew and understand its meaning, check out our Hebrew Reading Crash Course and Video Courses below.
